Vice Distribution sells content into LatAm, U.S. Hispanic market

Vice Distribution, the distribution arm of Vice Media Group, has locked up new content partnerships with Globo Brazil and Discovery U.S. Hispanic to bring 30 hours of Vice programming to the region.

Under the deal, both broadcasters have acquired the rights to the Vice TV-Vice World News coproduction Unknown Amazon (8 x 60 min.), in which New York-based Brazilian journalist Pedro Andrade looks at whether it’s too late to save the Amazon rainforest.

Additionally, Globo Brazil has secured titles including the 90-minute feature documentary Vice Versa: The Neglected Pandemic, 40 Years of HIV and Aids (pictured) narrated by Queer Eye‘s Jonathan Van Ness. Also part of the deal for Globo is the documentary series Planet A from Vice World News, which examines climate-related issues facing the planet.

Discovery U.S. Hispanic has also picked up the six-part docuseries Criminal Planet from Vice World News, which explores the latest trends in global crime and the increasingly complex challenges faced by law enforcement.

“The Latin American and U.S. Hispanic markets are thriving and we’re excited to take our first strides in the region with our partners Globo Brazil and Discovery U.S. Hispanic,” said Bea Hegedus, global head of distribution for Vice Media Group, in a statement. “The Vice library will be a new and exciting proposition for Spanish-speaking audiences, as we continue to bring our content to even more local markets.”

Hegedus was named to lead Vice’s distribution group in the summer of 2020.
